IP/CTS Frequently Asked Questions
1. What hardware and software does CTS need?
CTS runs on a PC or compatible, running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, and a display with at least 1024x768 resolution using High Color (16 Bit).
CTS uses the Microsoft Access database, however, CTS includes this, so you do not need to own a separate copy of Access. CTS uses either WordPerfect 11, 12, X3 or X4 or Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 to print forms and reports, so you need to own one of these word processing programs.
CTS also prints EFS forms using Adobe Acrobat (you must use the specific version required by the USPTO).
2. Does CTS track foreign cases?
Yes. CTS will track foreign patent and trademark cases. CTS also tracks patent cases through the PCT process and trademark cases through the Madrid Protocol.
3. Does CTS provide reports?
CTS provides patent case reports, trademark case reports, copyright case reports, general case reports, office action reports, and reports on foreign cases. CTS also has client and inventor reports plus a reminder list of all items that need attention. In addition, you can create your own reports, using either WordPerfect or Microsoft Word.
4. Is a demonstration disk available?
Yes. Give us a call at (303)452-3766, or click the Request Demo on the home page, to order a Demo Version.
5. Does CTS have default due dates?
Yes - CTS sets default due dates from preferences that are predefined, but you can change these preferences. Initially most of the preferences are based on the current law, for example office action response times, however, you can even change these if you like. Although CTS sets default due dates, you can change them at any time.
6. How often do reminder dates appear?
CTS has a reminder report that you can run as often as you like. In addition, each time a case is displayed, all the reminders that are due for that case are displayed on screen for the case. You set how far in the future you would like to see reminders, so that you are only reminded of things that need to be done now. You can also set CTS to display all reminders due each time you start CTS -- these reminders are displayed in colors indicating whether the reminder is due in the next month, due after more than a month, or overdue.
7. Does CTS work over a network?
CTS has been tested on the network provided in Windows, and will work over that network. We also have clients using the Novel network. Thus, the case database can be located on one computer, and accessed from any other computer on the network.
8. What is the cost of CTS?
Less than one to two day's billing for a typical patent attorney -- $1695 for the Standard Tradmark or Standard Patent Editions, $1995 for the Professional Edition, and $2295 for the Corporate Professional Edition.
